1. Reading the Comics section in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (FoxTrot, Calivin and Hobbes, The Far Side and the Sunday color edition of Family Circus dotted maps were early favorites)

2. Drawing and redrawing people, faces and favorite characters while poring over how-to draw books

3. Learning the most valuable drawing lesson—truly looking—at a Waffle House

EXPLORATION YEARS

1. Undergraduate and post-graduate study in filmmaking; editing; creative writing; screenwriting; photography; digital art; painting; drawing; printmaking; sculpting; spoken word poetry; improv comedy; illustration; and graphic design

2. Work experience in marketing; video production; post-production; freelance art; and graphic design—and incorporating illustration into my work as much as possible

3. As an in-house Director of Design, designed a guidebook on how to start your own business in Washington, DC…then started my own business in Washington, DC, taking my employer on as my first client

UNEXPECTED YEARS

1. Reconnecting to my love of drawing, illustrating, storytelling and creating through my journey of motherhood

2. Deciding to make a career switch at the onset of a global pandemic

3. Creating the space to dedicate my time towards illustrating, drawing, storytelling, and creating
